The Garden Flat is a self contained luxury 2 bedroom apartment within the Victorian Woll House Mansion. Enjoy your morning coffee in crisp clean air whilst overlooking the stunning Scottish hills. If you're quiet, you might find yourself sharing the stillness with the wild deer that like to graze on the front lawn. After breakfast, you're free to explore our private 100 acre estate or if you're feeling more active, take advantage of the many local trails marked for hiking or biking. Feeling lazier? We are centrally located for many iconic 12th-century ruined abbeys, grand stately homes, and ancient castles. Key highlights include the "Border Abbeys" (Melrose, Jedburgh, Dryburgh, Kelso), the historic Traquair House, Abbotsford (Sir Walter Scott’s home), and dramatic ruins like Hermitage Castle. The Garden Flat is also within easy reach of Edinburgh if you're keen to check out our Capital - think rugby, castle, Arthur's Seat or take advantage of one of our many festivals - whether it's books, art or Fringe, they're all an easy drive or train ride away. After a busy day, curl up in front of the open fire, or bbq on the spacious lawn with a glass of wine before snuggling down into your sumptuous bedding for your best night's rest in months.
The Woll House Mansion was built in1874 and the Garden Flat retains many original features. Think very high ceilings, original sash windows with shutters and the original servant bells (sadly, servants not included!). The kitchen is fully stocked with pots/pans/etc should you wish to enjoy a meal at home. If you fancy your morning cappuccino watching the sun rise, there is a Nescafe dolce gusto coffee machine and milk frother. We provide starter coffee pods, tea bags, sugar and instant coffee. Your welcome pack will include milk, home made tray bake and a bottle of wine - just a little something after your journey!
The main bedroom overlooking the lawn has huge windows so the room is flooded with sunshine as well as affording excellent opportunities to spot the deer which frequently play on the lawn. The super king bed can be divided into two large twins upon request. The second bedroom can be made up as two twins or one super king as required. Each room has dedicated thermostatic radiators. When it's time to sleep, both bedrooms have blackout blinds and working shutters - you may not wake until lunch!
The dining/lounge has an open fire so feel free to snuggle up together with your blankets after dinner. Alternatively, you're invited to bbq on the lawn (all equipment provided) or just to lounge in the hammock and relax. Whatever you choose to do, regardless of the weather, The Garden Flat is your opportunity to recharge and forget about the world for a few days.
The Garden Flat has plenty of private off road parking. We also have secure bike storage and a wash area. Whilst a key lockbox is provided so that you can come and go in complete peace, the Garden Flat is on the Woll Estate and staff are always on hand to assist with any queries. You may meet the Gamekeeper during your walks on the Estate.
Other details to note
A complimentary basket of logs is provided. Please just ask if you need more. Rubbish bins are located at the entrance of the green gates and recycling bags are under the sink. Please leave any recycling in these bags and we will take them to the tip for you.
